Message from Principal Bethards – May 1, 2020

“Individually, we are one drop. Together, we are an ocean.”

Ryunosuke Satoro

Dear Mountain View Families,

It is the end of our third week of distance learning as we collectively work together during this unprecedented time. We recognize that parents, students, and staff are navigating a new system that is challenging in multiple aspects. With that, there may be a loss that we experience as a collective, as we may be longing for what was our normality in our education system. We ask for your patience and understanding if the distance learning platform your child is receiving doesn’t match what was imagined. Just as engagement in distance learning is different in each home, it is also different in each teacher’s home. The flexibility to operate a functional virtual classroom from home varies for each teacher, each class and each individual household. Thank you for your ongoing support.

Please read below for other school district updates.

Take care,

Byron Bethards

Principal

Free Meal Site for Adair Village

The Corvallis School District is providing free pre-packaged meals to school-aged children at several sites in Corvallis. A new meal pick up site is available in the Santiam Christian School parking lot, Monday – Friday from 12:00-12:45 pm. No application or proof of income is required. Children do not have to be enrolled in Corvallis schools to receive a meal. Meals do not need to be consumed onsite; child must be present to pick up their own meal.

Student Personal Belongings at School

With the announcement of school closure for the remainder of this school year, we are making a plan for students to get their personal belongings left at school in a safe and efficient way. Schools will communicate with families when personal items are ready for pick-up or delivery. Please contact the school office if you have an item that is urgently needed (for example medication or other important items.) Thank you for your patience!

Kindergarten Enrollment

Kindergarten enrollment begins in May! See this link for the detailed information on how to register your incoming kindergarten student. Children who will be 5 years old as of September 1, 2020, are eligible to enroll in kindergarten at the school in their boundary area for the 2020-21 school year. Typically, families are asked to register in person at their neighborhood school. This year, due to the COVID-19 school closure, the registration process has moved online. Information about online registration and what to expect during kindergarten is available on the district website at https://bit.ly/CSDKinder

Re-Enrollment for 2020-2021

Acknowledging that we are in unprecedented times and that the future of education will look different, we will begin working on next school year’s enrollment. Next week, parents of current Kindergarten through Fourth Grade students will be asked to complete a forecasting form with their input on classroom placement for next year. Please look for an email with this information on Monday, May 4.
